Dates for your diary 7th & 8th May
Tom Barclay – The Duke’s Railway
On Friday 7th May, at 7.30pm in Troon Library
Something quite extraordinary was happening in Kilmarnock in the early years of the 19th Century. It was an engineering project on, for the time, a massive scale. Between 1808 and 1812 a railway was constructed to take coal and minerals from Kilmarnock to the harbour at Troon, and the first steam locomotive in Scotland was tried out on it. Tom Barclay our Reference and Local History Librarian will give a talk on the ambitious Kilmarnock and Troon Railway line.
On Saturday 8th May, 11.00am – 3.30pm, Open Day, Troon Library
Troon and Ayrshire Family History Society are holding an open day in the library. The Society is run by volunteers who share an interest in family history. It is one of the smaller societies in Scotland, but has the reputation of being very active. The main aim of the society is to encourage an interest in family history and to provide the means whereby research may be successful.
