Story-go-Round in South Ayrshire

We were delighted to welcome three classes from Southcraig School to Carnegie Children’s Library for some multi-sensory storytelling on Monday 6th September.   Story-go–Round storyteller Bernard Tagliavini encouraged the children to participate in each story and we all had great fun.  I am still laughing at the reactions to “ The Uninvited Guests”.  After the sessions, Bernard gave  a training presentation on MSST (multi-sensory storytelling technique) to selected South Ayrshire staff.

Story-go-Round is an exciting new development from Bag Books. Founded in 1993, Bag Books is the only provider of multi-sensory stories for the UK’s 300,000 people with severe or profound intellectual difficulties and multiple physical disabilities. The stories are especially devised to be accessible for children and adults whose language and communication development has stopped at an early stage but who are growing chronologically older and need age-appropriate material.

I was one of those lucky enough to attend both the training and one of Bernard’s sessions. It was an eye opening day, there is much more to MSST than I had imagined. It was wonderful to see the response from the children.
