‘A Monster Calls’ wins Kate Greenway and CILIP Carnegie Award

Congratulations to both Patrick Ness and Jim Kay.  A Monster Calls has won both the CILIP Kate Greenaway Award AND the CILIP Carnegie Award.  This is the first time ever the same book has won both awards, but it came as no surprise to us we absolutely love this book.

A Monster Calls by Patrick NessA Monster Calls is an extraordinarily moving novel about coming to terms with loss. The monster showed up just after midnight. As they do. But it isn’t the monster Conor’s been expecting. He’s been expecting the one from his nightmare, the one he’s had nearly every night since his mother started her treatments, the one with the darkness and the wind and the screaming…The monster in his back garden, though, this monster is something different. Something ancient, something wild. And it wants the most dangerous thing of all from Conor.

Lots of Primary 3 children at various libraries throughout South Ayrshire have been shadowing the Kate Greenaway Medal by reading the 8 shortlisted titles and deciding which book has the most outstanding illustrations…Did you favourite win?
