We pay tribute to Maeve Binchy who died today 31st July 2012

We were sad to hear that the multi-award-winning Irish author Maeve Binchy has died at the age of 72.

Maeve Binchy was a journalist, but is perhaps best known for her short stories and novels. Her two most popular books, Circle of Friends, and Tara Road were adapted into films, yet she remained modest about her success, once commenting, “I was very pleased, obviously, to have outsold great writers. But I’m not insane – I do realise that I am a popular writer who people buy to take on vacation.”  In fact, she sold over 40 million books, and her work has been translated into more than 30 different languages. Her last novel, Minding Frankie (Orion), which was published in September 2010, sold over 370,000 copies.
