Troon Primary 7 came along for a visit to Troon Library to explore the contents of the Next of Kin handling kit. The children were fascinated by the exhibits and particularly enjoyed the viewfinder and old photographs. Before returning to school the class also took part in a debate on the reasons for enlisting during WW1.
The Next of Kin handling kit features keepsakes treasured by families as a way of remembering loved ones lost on the fighting fronts, including letters and postcards sent home, medals sent by the government to next of kin and unique artefacts collected by troops as souvenirs.
The Next of Kin exhibition will be on display at Rozelle House, Monument Road, Ayr until 28 September 2015. Entry is free.
