Book Week Scotland Events 2017 South Ayrshire Libraries

Book Week Scotland is a week-long celebration of books and reading that takes place every November. This year’s celebrations will take place from Monday 27 November – Sunday 3 December 2017.

We have an exciting line up of events – we hope you can join us.

Mystery Screening – Free event, ticketed
Girvan Library, Monday 27 November, 2pm

Join us for the screening of a surprise film served for Book Week Scotland. Refreshments will be served. The film to be shown will be confirmed on our website before the day of the event, but why not live dangerously and book now? Limited to 30 places.

ADAPT! A literary film-making workshop – Free event, drop in
Carnegie Library, Tuesday 28 November, 1pm
Ever wanted to learn how to take your favourite stories, and make them come alive on film? Let the Film School Team show you how! After exploring the local library, participants will work on adapting their favourite chapter, short story or piece of fiction into a script for a short film. Once those creative muscles have been flexed, the group will pick a winning script to be made – learn new skills, express yourself and compete in the fun and challenging ADAPT! Project. Suitable for ages 14 – 16 years.

Nourish Therapy – Free event, ticketed
Girvan Library, Tuesday 28 November, 2pm
Come along to Girvan Library to discover more about Reiki and the techniques used. Anne Meredith, a retired nurse, registered to practice in Reiki / Healing touch within hospitals and hospices, will be sharing her expertise during this informative talk and demonstration.

‘Game of Thrones’ cookery themed demonstration – Paid, ticketed £5
Carnegie Library, Tuesday 28 November, 7pm
Join us for a Game of Thrones cooking demonstration. A 90-minute session which includes the chance to taste all dishes and a glass of wine, and copies of all the recipes to take away. Limited to 25 places.

Soul Food: Nourish your body and elevate your mind – Paid, ticketed £3
Carnegie Library, Wednesday 29 November, 7pm
Troon Library, Monday 27 November, 7pm
Local Holistic therapist Ann McDougall will explain and demonstrate the benefits of aromatherapy and other holistic therapies: leaving you feeling relaxed and with food for thought.

Reading Lunch for all – Free event, drop in
Carnegie Library, Thursday 30 November, 12.30pm
Prestwick Library, Thursday 30 November, 12.30pm
Troon Library, Thursday 30 November, 12.30pm
Join thousands of other readers nationally in a Reading Lunch:  Choose a mystery book in a bag and chill with a cuppa and a sandwich

Afternoon Mystery Book Café – Free event, drop in
Girvan Library, Thursday 30 November, 2pm
How often do you judge a book by its cover? Would you like to “blind taste” a new reading treat? Join us for a cuppa and a cake and settle down to sample one of our mystery books in a bag. A good time guaranteed on a dark November afternoon.

Film Night – Paid, ticketed £3
Carnegie Library, Thursday 30 November, 7pm
Relax and enjoy the timeless and touching classic ‘Fried Green Tomatoes’ at the ‘Whistle Stop Café.’ Refreshments will be served, places are limited to 40.

Film Show for Families – Paid, ticketed £2
Carnegie Library, Saturday 2 December, 10am
Take your seats for a morning film show at the library. We’ll be watching the hilarious animated-adventure, ‘Ratatouille’. Refreshments will be served, places are limited to 25.

Cupcake decorating workshop for families – Paid, ticketed £2
Carnegie Library, Saturday 2 December, 1.30pm and 2.30pm
Prestwick Library, Saturday 2 December, 10am and 11am
Troon Library, Saturday 2 December, 10am and 11am
You will decorate two freshly baked cupcakes – one to eat and one to take home in a beautiful gift box. For children aged 5 – 12 years. All children must be accompanied by an adult; limited to 12 places.

Pyjama Story Time – Free event, booking essential
Alloway Library, Friday 1st December 6pm – 6.45pm
Join us for a fun pyjama storytime. Children can come along in their pyjamas and bring along their favourite teddy. For ages 4-7 years. Limited to 12 places.
