Time Travel Adventures and a visit from Bookbug to celebrate Book Week Scotland

November 28, 2016

A huge thank you to everyone who came along to Symington Library’s Chatterbooks event for Book Week Scotland. Cakes were eaten, George’s Marvellous Medicine was sampled, Golden Books were found, Ears were pinned on BFG and prizes galore were won! But most importantly of all, hundreds of cuddles were given to and received by our special guest ‘Bookbug’ (who was extra cuddly after all they cakes he ate!).

Well done the Chatterbooks group for helping make the day such a great success!

We went time travelling with author and creative writing teacher Janis Mackay, when she visited Ayr’s Carnegie Library. Janis talked about her Time Travel Series of books and encouraged us all to get writing. The children (and adults) were enthralled listening to Janis and inspired to put pen to paper and start writing their own adventures.

Keeping with the time travel theme for our LEGO Lucky Bag Challenge, we got very imaginative and built some terrific time machines to zoom back through the years to Auld Ayr!

An ABBA night with a difference!

June 14, 2016

Staff at the Scottish and Local History Library, Carnegie Library, Ayr welcomed Ayrshire Bed & Breakfast Association members (and some of their guests!) on a special tour through their local and family history resources – maps, newspapers, printed books and photos, to mention a few. Designed to inform B&B owners on the sources we hold, so they can pass this onto their guests, we were delighted by their enthusiasm and interest!

Gingerbread Man Puppet Show with Clydebuilt Puppet Theatre at Ayr’s Carnegie Library

Gingerbread Man and fox

Imagine a world made entirely of biscuits: trees, house and stars in the sky.  Into this beautiful world comes GINGERBREAD MAN, creating havoc wherever he goes.  He meets a majestic Cow, a stubborn Goat and an opportunistic Bird.  But can GINGERBREAD MAN outwit the dastardly Fox….?

With a foot tapping ‘Yummy Chase’ soundtrack, reminiscent of an old movie and minimal language, this is tremendously popular story with younger audiences.  A visual feast specially devised for younger children aged 3+ years.

Ahoy Shipmates! Walking the Plank with Captain Bookbug at Carnegie Library

February 17, 2016

That pesky pirate Bookbug made us walk the plank across the shark infested sea to get to our Bookbug Session yesterday! Then we had to swab the decks, splice the mainbrace and salute to the captain.  Phew! It was a relief to sit down and read Pirates in Pyjamas by Caroline Crowe before making our pirate hats and flags. We can’t wait for next week when we start learning our Easter rhymes.

Lego fun at Ayr’s Carnegie Library

January 27, 2016

We read David Walliams bear-illiantly funny adventure ‘The Bear who went Boo‘ at our Monday afternoon Lego club. We all agreed that Boo the cheeky polar bear cub was very mischievous, so we imagined where he would go and what he would do next when we designed our builds.

At our Monday evening club it was Lucky Bag Lego.  Everyone received a mixed bag of Lego and had to build something using only the bricks and pieces in their Lucky Bag. Wow, look at all their fantastic creations!
