Trio of authors lined-up to bring Readers’ Day to life at the Carnegie

Three well-known and exciting authors are joining us for this year’s Readers’ Day at the Ayr Carnegie Library. The event, on Sunday 8 October, promises an eclectic mix of historical fiction, children’s books and poetry.

Gillian Muir is a fantastic local author from Minishant and an entertaining speaker. A geography teacher ‘to trade’, she has travelled widely. Her ‘Louis Louis’ picture books are a hit with children of all ages.

Douglas Jackson from Bridge of Allan, spent 36 years in journalism before leaving The Scotsman in 2009 to become a full-time writer. He has written ten historical novels and four thrillers (as James Douglas. His novels have been published in twelve languages.

Alan Riach is the Professor of Scottish Literature at Glasgow University and the author of numerous books including his sixth collection of poems.

Local Author Gillian Muir visits Girvan and Maybole Libraries

WOOF! Classes from Cairn Primary and Girvan Primary enjoyed a visit from Louis the Spaniel and his owner yesterday. Local author Gillian Muir shared ‘tails’ with the children about how she adopted Louis from the Help Animals Shelter in Brussels. Loveable Louis is the inspiration for Gillian’s Louis Louis books, and the children loved hearing all about his adventures 🐶  .

Local author Gillian Muir and Louis the dog dropped in for a visit at Alloway Library last week.  Gillian had a chat about her books, and gave lots of good advice on writing to the older children. At the end the children lined up to meet Louis and give him a cuddle, he is the star of the books after all!

Bookbug gets set for Book Week Scotland

Book Week Scotland Events 2014

All events are free, but places must be booked.

Murder at the Ravenswick Hotel by Ann Cleeves

Monday 24th November, 7.30pm at Troon Library
Thursday 27th November 7.30pm at Carnegie Library, Ayr

We all know how Cluedo works and we all love a good story, so get your detective hat on and see if you can work out who the murderer is in this whodunnit.

There’s Been a Murder… with Douglas Skelton
Wednesday 26th November, 7pm at Carnegie Library, Ayr

Douglas Skelton is a journalist and author. He has written a number of true crime books, including Blood on the Thistle, Devils Gallop and Frightener.

FAMILY EVENT: Louis goes to the Library
Saturday 29th November, 2pm at Carnegie Library, Ayr

Louis the spaniel, star of the Louis books will be appearing at Carnegie Library. He will be bringing his owner Gillian Muir who will tell us about his latest adventures. Louis might get a woof or two in too.

Come along and meet Louis the Spaniel and hear all about his adventures.

Saturday 29th November, 2pm at Ayr’s Carnegie Library

Louis is a real dog! He was adopted by the Muir family from the Help Animals Shelter in the centre of Brussels. He was the inspiration for the Louis Louis books written by Gillian Muir and  illustrated by Delphine Frantzen.
