The Big Debate at Troon Library

March 9, 2016

IMG_0419IMG_0416

Troon Primary 7s visited the library on Monday, where the two classes took part in a debate ‘Do Libraries Have a Future?’. The children put forward compelling arguments for both sides, with a victory for the ‘Yes’ campaign coming out as a clear winner (phew). It gave the children pause for thought and made them think about what their library means to them, and their wider community. The take home message at the end of the day was definitely ‘use it or lose it!’.  Well done to everyone who took part!

Today is International Talk Like a Pirate Day

September 19, 2012

International Talk Like a Pirate Day

Ahoy Mateys! Barnacle Bill here. This be International Talk Like a Pirate Day (Why just today? I talks like this all the time!) I’m here to give you some tips to see you through this auspicious day.

You should greet friends with ‘Ahoy matey’ instead of ‘Hello’; use ‘Aarrr!’ to reply in the affirmative instead of ‘Yes!’; and say ‘Shiver me timbers’ to express surprise or shock (like when one of your crew has helped hisself to your secret stash of fish fingers*). You could even employ a parrot to sit on your shoulder for the day, or see off your enemies by making them walk the plank. You get the idea…

What have these sea-faring buccaneers to do with libraries? Well, they have lots of books featuring my fellow pirates on the high seas! So get down to your local library and grab some booty before that evil pirate Redbeard plunders the shelves afore ye!
