Watch out for Alloway Library’s Chatterbooks group …they might be spying on you!

March 21, 2014

It was ‘Spy Month” at the Chatterbooks session in Alloway Library,  and our amateur spies designed some cool gadgets. Sophie designed a “Book of Mirrors” which looks just like a book, but can be used to spy on people! Lauren designed a “Spy Phone 6” which has a laser beam, finger print tester and invisible ink.  Jennifer designed “The Spy Bag 3001” which is made of ice cream and comes with a disguise set, hypnosis glasses and a shrink-o-meter. Kirsten designed a “Multi Pen” with 9 different things to help escape from dangerous situations, including; stun gas, a laser beam and emergency oxygen.  Mission accomplished girls.

Alloway Library’s Chatterbooks reading group is suitable for children aged 8 to 11 years.  Please telephone: 01292 442395 or email: alloway.library@south-ayrshire.gov.uk if you would like more information.

World Book Day 6 March 2014

March 3, 2014

WBD2014_yellow_leftOur Book Ninjas are out and about on World Book Day

Our library staff Renee, Ailsa, Gillian and Suzanne can’t wait to get budding bookworms buzzing about this year’s World Book Day. Now in its 17th year, World Book Day aims to encourage children to explore the pleasures of books and reading by providing them with the opportunity to have a book of their own. The staff will be joining the celebrations by visiting some local primary schools and nursery classes to read stories and share just how magical books can be.

Presenting 2014’s ten terrific £1 books!

Every child in full-time education in the UK and Ireland will be given a book token so they can visit a participating bookshop and choose a book for themselves. Remember to swap your book token at your local book seller by 30 March 2014.
